Creating Dreams

BARBARA SHAUGHNESSY, principal of Tamerlane Interiors, has spent over two decades designing for both residential and commercial clients.

Her philosophy has remained constant. “Interior design and décor must incorporate the elements of good design, while maintaining the personality and lifestyle considerations of individuals who live and/or work there”.

From an early career in interior design at Ridpath’s Fine Furniture in Toronto, Barbara joined progressive commercial designer, Robitaille Interiors, where her experience grew to include multi-purpose recreational complexes and the prestigious Greystone Golf Club just outside Milton.

Barbara emerged in the early nineties as sole proprietor of Tamerlane Interiors. Almost immediately, her home design projects were featured in design magazines and newspapers (Toronto Star) including a cover story in Renovation and Décor Magazine and Homes and Cottages. Food and Home published a feature called “Southwestern Warmth” on a home completed in 2002 that won a kitchen design award.

Her multiple exposures in Caledon Living have made Barb a hot commodity in the Caledon community with numerous projects on the go. Each project is a different as the people who live there. In the premiere issue Barb gave advice on kitchens and was the cover story in the second issue with a French Country Home in Palgrave. Summer 2006 was a kitchen addition in Inglewood. In Winter 2007, another cover, a full renovation on an English Country home in Palgrave.

Most of the Barb’s work includes invigorating tired interiors with new kitchens, baths, and living spaces. She will often design an addition to add space and additional features to the home. On “New Home” projects Barb interacts well with Architects and General Contractors. To complete the job, Barb offers complete finishing from lighting, window treatments and furnishings.

Barb has been no stranger to consumer home shows. In 2001, Barb designed the Toronto Star Dream Home for the National Home Show, the largest home show in North America.

Clients not only benefit from Barb’s design talents but have access to Barb’s extensive network of suppliers and contractors. For renovation and design projects Barb is quite happy to become part of your team or she can help build a team for you.
